The Tasmanian Public Airwave Network, TPAN, was a plan that involv:q ed a wireless network, of which the core infrastructure would be owned by TPAN, and anyone could connect to. However, the limited resources available meant that the project could never effectively be implemented.

With the popularity of wireless increasing, and the establishment of community groups, rather than one large controlling body, it was decided that the idea of TPAN was dated, and that the ideology behind it be abandoned, with the new focus being to suppor the existing groups by any means possible
